My friend Mercia emailed a message to me:

YESTERDAYS GONE ! mmmmmmmmmh– SO LEAVE IT ALONE!!

I think the above is the reason for me being a bit “faraway” today LOL, without my yesteryears where am I today hahaha, got me very confused!! (Although there are quite a few memories I’d love to forget…….you know those one’s where you caused ******!!!)

But while the rest of me was somewhere else, I put together my little mushies for a Designers Resource Pack, they come in the usual seperated Black and White PNG and PSD template format and include the Art templates as well.

Humpty Who?

Okay, been reading some more useless information LOL, the origins of nursery rhymes. It seems that the composers were forced to disguise their commentary on current affairs in the form of children’s rhymes or risk swift imprisonment or a nasty death, so these rhymes were written as cleverly coded comments on society.  Many of the well known rhymes refer to British politics of the time or where used to spread gossip about royalty – (mmmmh Ladies watch your tongues LOL) which was punishable by beheading or being burnt at the stake……… NICE!

Mary Mary Quite Contrary…. This Mary refers to the English Queen Mary Tudor – nicknamed Bloody Mary, a catholic who wanted to rid England of Protestants. Mary’s “garden” was apparently an allusion to graveyards full of Protestants who met untimely deaths because of their religious beliefs. The “silver bells and cockle shells” growing in her garden were instruments of torture while the “maids” were the machines that beheaded people in a similar fashion to the guillotine.

Jack and Jill…………clumsy jack is France’s King Louis XVI who was beheaded in 1793 – Jack fell down and broke his crown… His wife Queen Marie Antoinette met the same unfortunate fate….and Jill came tumbling after. This rhyme was made a little more child-friendly by indicating that Jack didn’t die but mended his head with vinegar and brown paper……… now we also have the origins of Zombies!

Humpty Dumpty………Contrary to popular belief, the giant “egg” depicted in illustrations of this rhyme was probably a large cannon used during the English Civil War. It toppled off a tower and could not be repaired. The words “Humpty Dumpty” was also slang for a short, stout person and some academics are convinced that the unfortunate hero is King Richard 111 of England who was hunchbacked. Mmmm guess who had scrambled eggs for breakfast.

and a lot less bloody……. Baa Baa Black Sheep.  A sharp comment on tax implications for citizens in the 13th century. One third of the tax went to the local lord……”one for the master”, another third to the church…….”the dame” and the last cut to the farmer…….”the little boy who lives down the lane.”

What are we teaching our kids LOL!

I had a little bit of fun yesterday and ended up with something to share with you all, was running around like a mad thing collecting all the last bit of green left in our garden LOL!! so here’s a CLUSTER LEAF FRAME FREEBIE for you.

Running on Candles

Hi everyone,

OOOOOOOOOHHH who ever said candles where romantic LOL!!!

Been running around with candles, gas cookers (yep kim - this ones not a camp out, wish it was hehehe) and cold feet, our power was out for most of yesterday and last night - if it gets a fraction cold around here almost everyone turns on the heaters and Eskom decides to “cut off” our little town to feed the big city with extra power LOL!  So its gonna be short and sweet today so I can get back to work before our energy supply runs down……. and while my feet still feel warm!

Grandma’s Apron

Morning to you all,

Our local paper “ons nuus” (our news) ran an article on the history of the apron in their latest edition and I just had to share it with you! It goes to say the principal use of grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath – because she only had a few and it was easier to wash the apron than the dresses. It also served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven, drying children’s tears and on occasion was used for cleaning out dirty ears! LOL! It’s other uses were to assist in the chicken coop – carrying eggs, fussy chicks and half-hatched eggs to finish hatching in the warming oven.  When company came the apron was an ideal hiding place for kids running from puckering lips. It served to keep grandma warm and those big old aprons helped her bring in chips and kindling wood into the kitchen, carried veggies in from the garden and carried the peels and scraps back out to the fertilizing area’s. It was used to quickly dust the furniture should anyone pop over unexpected and when dinner was ready, grandma walked onto the porch and waved her apron to signal to the men that grub was up! It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that old-time apron that had so many uses! Remember – grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her grand-daughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw out (YEP THATS ME!! hahaha)

People would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron!!

I had a wonderful surprise from Jazzy and Loucee this weekend, they sent through some beautiful work they had made with my new kit I got all excited again LOL!!
